Travel grants for rMA students

Since 2025, the Research School has made a limited amount of funding available each year for Research MA students (members of Research School for Medieval Studies) who participate in a conference or workshop abroad and contribute substantially to the event.


The grant can be used to cover travel, accommodation, and registration costs. Students must submit their application no later than one month before the start of the event to the secretary of the Research School at ozsmed@hum.leidenuniv.nl. An application should include:

A motivation letter (approx. 200 words) explaining the relevance of the event for the applicant
A financial overview including a budget for travel, accommodation, and registration costs, with details of any other funding applications
The amount requested (maximum €750)
Proof that the applicant is giving a presentation or otherwise contributing substantially to the event (e.g. programme, invitation, or proof of registration)


Reimbursement will take place after the event, upon submission of financial receipts and a brief report (max. 1 A4) on the event.

Please note: Students enrolled in the course Presenting Medieval Research are not eligible to apply for this travel grant for participation in the International Medieval Congress in Leeds. Participants in this course will receive a separate (partial) reimbursement.
