Course: Presenting Medieval Research (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. This course is designed to aid participants in their preparations for presenting an academic paper at an international congress on Medieval Studies (e.g. the yearly International Medieval Congress at Leeds).
Core Course: Thesis Lab 'The Source Course' (3 ECTS)
3 ECTS. The course offers researchers who are in the initial stage of their project the opportunity to reflect thoroughly on their primary sources
Course: Medieval Book Scripts (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. This course explores the range of scripts used for copying medieval books (focusing in particular on the Latin and Dutch traditions, but also incorporating other vernacular examples).
Course: Medieval Latin (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. The course trains medieval historians, art historians and literary historians in the practical reading of all sorts of source texts/source text types written in medieval Latin.
Course: Visual Culture (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. This course deals with a variety of aspects of medieval visual culture.
Core Course: Introduction to Medieval Studies in the Netherlands (IMS) (2 ECTS)
2 ECTS. The course offers an introductory survey of what is going on in the field of international medieval studies.
Course: Exploring the Medieval Archive (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. Archives contain a wealth of material that provides new insights, not only to historians but also to literary historians and art historians. However, the texts are often written in difficult-to-decipher handwriting and interpreting the content is not always easy.
Course: Material Culture (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. The course will be dealing with various kinds of material culture as sources for knowledge and research in Medieval Studies.
Course: Literary Culture (2/5 ECTS)
2/5 ECTS. The course features an eye on Latin literature, on less known traditions, but also an oversight of main developments in vernacular literature.
Masterclass: Reimagining Monastic Leadership in Medieval Europe (3-5 ECTS)
3/5 ECTS. This workshop will be geared heavily towards the publication of a collected volume on 'monastic leadership’ in the early Middle Ages.
Spring School: Materiality, Material Culture and Materialist Approaches, Ghent, 1-5 June 2026 (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. This Spring School is aims to stimulate contacts and exchange between PhD candidates and ReMa students in the interdisciplinary field of Medieval and Early Modern Studies, bringing them together around a specific theme.
Core Course: Workshop Your Dissertation (3 ECTS)
3 ECTS. The course offers PhD-students who are about halfway with their project the opportunity to have the complete lay-out of their project scrutinized by invited specialists in their field who are not their supervisors.
Summer School: Manuscript Studies - Codicology and Digital Techniques (5 ECTS)
5 ECTS. Manuscripts are full of traces left by their makers and users. Their material features provide clues about their date and place of origin, their cultural contexts, and their social lives during their long existence. In this course, we will explore these material features from this perspective.
